President Uhuru Kenyatta will this morning visit Nyeri County to preside over the pass out parade of police recruits at the Kenya Police Training College Kiganjo. The Head of State will oversee the graduation of 4000 officers who are part of a batch of 10,000 who were recruited by the National Police Service to serve under different formations including the General Service Unit and the Administration Police. Under President Kenyatta’s watch the Kenya police force numbers have seen a significant boost with police training colleges taking in an average of 10,000 recruits every year. On Saturday, President Kenyatta will tour different parts of Kiambu County before returning to Nyeri on Monday for the burial of former Governor Nderitu Gachagua, who passed away in London last Friday. Gachagua has been eulogised by many Kenyans including the President as a visionary and hardworking leader. Friends and foe recognised the former Governor as a formidable player in the politics of Nyeri. On Monday, the Head of State will attend the 4th Annual Devolution Conference in Nakuru County. The devolution conference comes as the curtains draw on the pioneer county governments and organisers have promised to showcase how the new system of administration has impacted positively on Kenyans. The National Government has transferred more than Sh1 trillion to counties since 2013 to ensure devolution succeeds. President Kenyatta has promoted and supported the success of the new system of Government and has, besides the Sh1 trillion allocations, initiated various initiatives to support development at the grassroots level. Some of the flagship projects President Kenyatta has initiated to support devolution include the Managed Equipment Services where two hospitals in each of the 47 Counties have been equipped with modern medical equipment. The National Government has also supported free maternity Services and has also injected billions into electrification and lighting projects.
