President Kenyatta thanks Gusii community for supporting him
NYAMIRA, 5 Oct 2017 (PSCU) – President Uhuru Kenyatta today thanked the Gusii community, saying the votes Jubilee got in the August 8 polls is proof that the region is no longer an opposition stronghold.
The President, accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto, pointed out that the Gusii community has clearly shown that they are ready to join hands with other Kenyans in building the country under the Jubilee Administration.
Addressing a campaign rally at Ekeronyo in Nyamira County on Thursday, President Kenyatta asked Kenyans to shun the divisive and tribal politics championed by the opposition.
“Kenyans need to join hands and work together to build the country. We cannot afford to be divided along tribal lines,” President Kenyatta said.
The President lambasted opposition leader Raila Odinga for trying to sabotage the October 26 election with unrealistic demands, saying that is a sign that the opposition was scared of fresh polls.
“When the Supreme Court nullified the Presidential elections and ordered for fresh polls within 60 days, our opponents thought we would refuse and thereby get opportunity to get into government through the back door but we have proved them wrong,” President Kenyatta said.
During the rally Dr James Gesami who vied for Nyamira gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate joined Jubilee and pledged to mobilise Nyamira residents to vote for President Kenyatta.
Mr. Gesami who is also a former West Mugirango Member of Parliament said together with other leaders from Nyamira they will launch massive campaign to ensure the President gets over 70 per cent votes in the County. President Kenyatta garnered 106,894 votes (52.07%) in Nyamira in the August 8 election.
Led by North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko, the leaders assured President Kenyatta that Nyamira residents will give him more votes on the October 26 than they did on August 8.
“Nyamira people have rejected the lies peddled by the opposition. They have now made up their mind and they will ensure you win the coming fresh election with an even wider margin,” said Dr. Gesami.
“As leaders of Nyamira we have agreed to lead our people to where they can get development. We will not accept to be misled to ruin our good country through unnecessary demonstrations,” said the Nyamira leaders.
Deputy President Ruto said the October 26 fresh poll gives Kenyans an opportunity to prove the opposition leader wrong.
“They told us that Kisii and Nyamira are opposition strongholds but with theAugust 8 polls, the residents proved them wrong,” said the Deputy President.
“In the August polls we defeated him (Mr. Odinga) with 1.4 million votes. This time round he will lose with 3 million votes,” he added.
Other leaders from Nyamira who joined the Jubilee Party included Fred Makamara and George Marara who assured the President of their support in mobilising votes for him.
Addressing another rally at Gesima, President Kenyatta thanked residents for voting for Jubilee MPs.
“Our main aim is to serve you. Our focus is development. We do not want quarrels and tribal politics,” said the President.
Deputy President Ruto asked Nyamira residents to vote for the Jubilee administration because it is committed to implementing development projects that are transforming the lives of Kenyans.
“We are telling those we are competing with that the Supreme Court said the fresh election will be managed by IEBC. They should not play games with us,” said the Deputy President.
Other speakers included Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose and Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso and Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
