President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged leaders from across the political divide to concentrate on working to transform the lives of Kenyans, saying the season of politics is over.

The President said he recognised all politicians as leaders, emphasising that he is ready to work with them to transform the lives of Kenyans.

“My aim is to improve the lives of Kenyans. You can take politics elsewhere but for me, this is my final term in office and my focus is on development to transform the lives of the people,” the President said.

President Kenyatta spoke this evening when presided over the lighting of City Hall and the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) to usher in the Christmas festive season.

The President who had earlier at City Hall held talks with the Nairobi County leadership led by Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko as well as Members of County Assembly both from Jubilee and NASA, reiterated his promise that the National Government will work the County Government to transform the lives of the people of Nairobi.

He asked the leaders to join hands in making the city to regain its status as the most remarkable hub on the African continent, a great green city in the sun.

“I have said often that Nairobi accounts for a huge percentage of our GDP but does not always receive its fair share. This is something I want us to change together so that in the years to come, this administration will be remembered for bringing Nairobi back to its greatness,” President Kenyatta said.

President Kenyatta said he has agreed with the County leadership on measures that will ensure Nairobi achieves its deserved income and the revenue is put to good use for the benefit of the residents instead of ending up in the pockets of a few individuals.

The President took the opportunity to wish all Kenyans a “Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous 2018”.

Governor Sonko assured Nairobi residents of his administration’s commitment to ensuring that they receive quality and efficient services.

The Governor said his leadership has embarked on a move to dismantle all cartels that were stifling delivery of service to the people.
