QUEBEC CITY, Canada, 11 June 2018 (PSCU) – President Uhuru Kenyatta has said he looks forward to consolidate the wins of his engagements at the G7 Summit in Quebec City, Canada, for maximum benefit to Kenya. Speaking today before he departed Quebec for home, President Kenyatta said the G7 Summit offered an opportunity to discuss matters that are important to Kenya, Africa and the global community. He cited the protection and exploitation of oceans to create jobs and prosperity – which dominated the Summit – as some of the topics that were in sync with Kenya’s transformative agenda. “This was one of the key elements of the Summit and I was very happy to be a participant and to hear of the solid support for our own conference that will be held sometime towards the end of this year in Nairobi,” the President said. President Kenyatta added: “Many countries have promised to help. Canada – which will co-sponsor the conference with Kenya – is one of them.” The Kenyan Head of State said the Canada visit also offered him an opportunity to discuss bilateral issues with a number of leaders from other countries. With host Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, President Kenyatta said they had good discussions on bilateral relations and how the two countries could cooperate on a variety of issues ranging from security to more investment. “I also had an opportunity to discuss with my fellow African leaders on matters pertaining to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and many other issues including security in the Horn of Africa region,” President Kenyatta said. President Kenyatta termed the Canada visit a success, saying he was optimistic Kenya would receive more support as it gears up to host its first ever high-level conference on the Blue Economy in November.
