President Kenyatta Asks NLC To Revoke Kibarani Land Allocation; Agrees To A Request For A City Regeneration Project In Mombasa

Office of the Spokesperson State House Nairobi 30th July 2018 Press Statement President Kenyatta asks NLC to revoke Kibarani land allocation; agrees to a request for a city regeneration project in Mombasa President Uhuru Kenyatta has today asked the National Land Commission to revoke the allocation of the Kibarani dumpsite land to a private developer and hand it back to the County Government of Mombasa. Further, the Head of State said that the dumpsite should be decommissioned and the land used for the development of recreational facilities as part of the ongoing efforts to reposition Mombasa as a top tourism destination in the region. At a meeting with Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho attended by Cabinet Secretaries Najib Balala (Tourism) and Keriako Tobiko (Environment), the President also agreed to a request by the County Government of Mombasa for a city regeneration intervention modelled on the Nairobi Regeneration Programme. The Nairobi Regeneration Programme is an intergovernmental initiative in which the County and National Governments are working together to enhance infrastructure and service delivery in the City.
