NAROK, 11 September 2018 (PSCU) – First Lady Margaret Kenyatta will tomorrow, Wednesday, 12th September launch the Integrated Medical Safaris, an initiative aimed at contributing towards the achievement of the Universal Healthcare Coverage.

The launch of the Integrated Medical Safaris – which will take place at Narok stadium in Narok County – is part of the First Lady’s Beyond Zero 2nd Strategic Framework (2018-2022) anchored on the principle of leaving no one behind and adopts a life-cycle approach targeting pregnant women and newborns, infants and children, adolescents and young people, men, older persons and children with disabilities.

The first three-day medical safari will include the identification of women and girls who require treatment for obstetric fistula including their re-integration into their communities; registration and assessment of children with intellectual impairment; enrollment of pregnant women into the Linda Mama NHIF programme; eye care for older persons; screening of cancers including provision of routine services such as immunization, HIV testing and counselling.

The integrated medical safaris are in collaboration with county governments to enhance synergy towards universal healthcare and catalyze actions towards strategic partnerships across counties, communities, private sector and other Government agencies.

The medical safaris will support President Kenyatta’s Big 4 Agenda on universal healthcare which intends to increase the number of people with health coverage from 16.53 million to 25.74 million.

The Government will expand the Linda Mama programme which will see the provision of free maternity care — to mission and private hospitals, while at the same time enlisting 100,000 community health volunteers to help in healthcare service provision at the grassroots.
