NAMBALE, Busia County, 14 JUNE 2017, (PSCU) - President Uhuru Kenyatta today told the people of Western Kenya that it is time for them to change their political outlook.
The President said the region should vote for progress and development instead of supporting people who have no agenda for development.
He made the call as he traversed Busia County starting his journey by road from Port Victoria through Funyula, Bumala, Matayos and Nambale before finally ending his tour at Amagoro.
The President and Deputy President William Ruto first landed at Port Victoria where ecstatic crowds greeted them.
President Kenyatta addressed a rally at the site of a new bridge being built by the Government to stop the recurring tragedies of drowning in River Nzoia at Sigiri.
He said his Administration has brought change by making government sensitive to the needs of Kenyans and by initiating development projects that people were denied for many decades.
The President said the Government has initiated many development projects in the region and will continue implement initiatives that will improve the lives of Kenyans.
"There is a big difference between those who will sell to you propaganda and people who will sell to you real agenda for change," said the President when he addressed thousands of people who rallied on the banks of River Nzoia.
President Kenyatta said the Government is keen on reviving factories that collapsed due to neglect or corruption under previous Government.
He listed some of the factories that have been supported by the Jubilee Government as Mumias Sugar and Nzoia Sugar, Rivatex and New KCC.
He said the Government also plans to revive Kicomi and Mountex, which will be followed by the revival of ginneries.
“We want to reopen our textile factories and revive ginneries in order to support cotton farming,” said the President at Funyula at the heart of a region once known for its cotton production.
Leaders from the region who spoke during the rallies said they have many reasons for backing his re-election.
Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba, who leads the Labour Party of Kenya and a key backer of the President, said the people of the region have made an informed decision to vote for President Kenyatta.
“You are trustworthy, you listen and you keep your promises,” said Namwamba as he roused thousands of the President’s supporters at the historic town of Port Victoria.
“You are genuine, you are an understanding leader, you are a good listener and a performer,” said Namwamba.
When he spoke at Bumala, President Kenyatta said the leaders of opposition should be ready to retire for good from politics after he trounces them on August 8.
He said in 2013 he became President after trouncing leaders of the current opposition who were at the time in charge of Government.
“Ruto and I were alone in 2013 and we were able to beat them. There should be no doubt that we shall trounce them again,” said the President.
He said many of the leaders who were supporting the opposition were now backing his re-election.
“Now I have Ababu, I have Eugene Wamalwa (CS water) and I have Governor Ken Lusaka as well as the governors of Tana River and Kwale among many more,” said the President.
The Deputy President urged residents of the county to vote for the Jubilee government because people who care about the interest of the country run it.
"What you need is a government that will come up with solutions to create jobs for our youth and improve our economy," said President Kenyatta.
The President’s entourage included jubilee and LPK aspirants for various positions in Busia County as well as other Jubilee leaders including Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka and Joyce Lay (MP).
